The quick setting action of this rare and well made beam compass/trammel points set is achieved by turning the spring-loaded friction control knob on top of the compass body over the beech wood beam. There is no maker's mark or signature on the compass, but a beam compass of exactly the same design can be found in the 32nd "U" edition of the catelogue of Stanley London (art. U2228). It is also known that W. H. Harling Ltd. produced an identical set at around 1930.
